The Botswana Council of Non-Governmental Organisations (BOCONGO) is the national umbrella body for Non-Governmental Organisations in Botswana. BOCONGO was officially registered in 1995 with the Registrar of Societies (Registration No. CR1957)
The Council is governed by a General Assembly, which is made up of representative from paid up members. The affairs of the General Assembly are run by the Secretariat, which is the implementing arm of the Council, responsible for the day to day management and administrative work of the Council. It is headed by the Executive Secretary who is assisted by other professional staff. The Secretariat is provided with policy guidance by the Executive Committee which is made up of elected representatives from the membership.

BOCONGO's MISSION

"Assist in establishing an enabling environment for the NGO sector to
become a recognised partner in the development process" in Botswana
and internationally; and to provide a platform for networking, advocacy,
capacity building for local NGOs, and mobilising of resources for the
self-sustainability of the NGO sector in Botswana."

BOCONGO's OBJECTIVES

• To facilitate capacity building for local NGOs and CBOs and to ensure
their full and effective participation in the development process at both
national and international levels.
• To facilitate networking amongst NGOs and CBOs, Government,
the private sector, donor agencies and other development partners
• To facilitate a coordinated response by NGOs and CBOs on issues
that require consensus building.
• To play a leading role in policy advocacy and lobbying
